"Connection, motivation, education, and inspiration. These are what I get out of my experiences with SMART. But it wasn't always that way.  I used to have personal trainers who scrutinized my every move, which was discouraging and made me want to cancel appointments. The last thing I need is to be under the gun while I'm learning. When I took large classes, the instructor didn't even know my name and the other students definitely didn't. "I am a very active 63-year-old nurse, on my feet all day long.  Three knee surgeries after skiing accidents have left me unable to run, but I walk, hike, garden and canoe regularly in the summer; in the winter I still ski and carry in the wood for heat (my osteoporosis prevention program).  Yet, there were many things I dreaded, such as when my husband asked me to help him lift something heavy.  That hurt!  I also noticed some muscle atrophy in both arms and legs, which made me concerned about more ski accidents.  So I signed up for Julie’s virtual coaching program.


What a difference after just months in her program!  When it came time to carry our 85 pound wooden canoe out of the barn, I just lifted my end right up and walked out without a struggle.  That had never happened before!  We have 25 acres to maintain, and I found that my stamina for gardening and landscaping markedly increased.  At Julie’s suggestion, I combined exercising with the gardening, eg, lunges while raking, deep knee bends while digging, power walking while going to the barn, etc.  With so much land, every minute counts and the amount of work I can complete in a couple of hours has doubled.  And I was less tired at the end of a busy work day so I could garden longer.  I even lost weight in the process!
